Digitization is an important part of long term conservative of materials. Due to very many changes in the weather conditions such as the increased amount of heat., rise in sea levels so many of our materials and objects are in danger of either deterioration, disintegration or other damages. Thus it is vital to think of a way to protect our future and our history from getting wiped off. Digitization therefore has been adopted by different organizations such as museums, libraries etc around the world in order to protect, market and share their collections with whoever needs to access them for different purposes such as research and reference.

Digitization has eased accessibility of materials to people in places where they cannot reach the materials first hand. Scholars who need materials for their studies and research can therefore access this information easily on digital platforms. Digitization also provides a backup for materials incase of a disaster, deterioration or disintegration of objects. This way atleast the future generations won't be left in vain of information.

The disadvantages on the other hand come during handling of such delicate objects.  Without proper knowledge or know how these materials could end up getting damaged earlier than anticipated. Therefore, proper education needs to be offered to those doing this work. Another disadvantage is finance, most African countries lack enough capital to carry out this long time project.
